Communication is important in the game. When there is a problem, then you can at least ask someone.

You can also read the help-files: Chat systems

There are 3 important ways to communicate. You can speak in local, you can send someone a Personal Message (PM) and you can speak in Chatrooms (channels). There are channels for different purposes. You can even make your own channel and invite people to it!

Now, i bet you have already found out how to speak in local. You just type something and hit Enter. Very simple. Everyone who is in the same area can hear what you say. If you want to say something to a player that is out of range then you need to use PM.

The syntax is the following:
/Playername Message
Do you see some player around you ? Then try to say hi in PM.
Now it would be very inconvenient if you had to write
/Playername every time. There is a shortcut. // auto-completes the last name that send you a PM.

You are already logged in the Newbie Channel. If you want to send a message into the channel write
@Hi ! and see what happens.

Every channel has a number. And you can have 3 channels open. But you can speak only in one channel at a time. To select which channel you want to talk in, select it by left-clicking in the box at the top of your screen.
Alternatively you could also write @@Number Message

Some very popular channels have the name in the box instead of the number. Every box has an X and one has a '+'. When you click on the X, you close the channel. The '+' sign shows you which channel you have selected as active. If you closed the Newbie Channel by accident, please do the following #jc 1
.
You could have also clicked on the blue button Channels on the top left and then Newbie Help. There are many ways of doing things in EL. You can choose a channel number between 1 and 999999999 if you want to open your own channel. You can not know who is on a channel, but you can ask how many there with the following command. #ci

Now that we are talking about chat, it is time to show you some additional short-keys that will help you. The F1.key opens the console. If you were not able to follow a conversation you can open it to read it again. You use the up.key and down.key to scroll the page. The pageup.key and pagedown.key work too !
When an URL was posted then you can view it by simply hitting the F2.key . It will open the last seen URL in your browser.

Now just two more important short-keys. Hold down the ctrl.key and hit the up.key (a few times). It will repeat the last thing you wrote. And last but not least, you can auto-complete names and even commands when you press the ctrl.key and space.key together !
